Hideki's Room

When I watched Chobits, to me what really stuck wasn't the futuristic Persocoms (that were eerily reminiscent to smartphones). But it was instead the lifestyle or Hideki. This show kicked off my obsession with minimalism and living with as much stuff as possible.

I was in a similar situation to his, being a student with a part-time job, moving from a small town to a large city. It sparked my thoughts about the little details, and how it never crossed my mind normally. I became fascinated by Japanese Apartment layouts and how a lot conveniences are built in. Like the tatami flooring, and the sliding doors creating seperation between rooms.

It convinced me to get rid of my bed and desk and to use a folding futon and foldable table. The idea of removing as much as possible to get to a core baseline to reshape who I was. I wanted focus and control, and I found it by finding all the ways to make life more efficient.

There was just something about the sparse room and the space created by it that really stuck with me.
